Has it really anything Xtra?

While on a browse of the Tea shelf in my local supermarket, my attention was pulled towards the happy face of Ainsley Harriott. Then I thought 'Ainsley Harriott and tea? now there's a combo!' Like any Tea lover I picked up a pack and ran to the checkouts. The teas proper name is Xtra Tea and in this pack which was just over 2 English Pounds there is 176 tea bags. Was Ainsley's tea as good as his cooking? read on to find out...

The Tea Testers available to test were, in alphabetical order: Matt Curd, Callum Green, Matt Green and for the first time ever, the wisest tea tester among us Roger "Tea" Green. Roger was particularly intrigued by this tea because it is low in caffeine.

Ainsley's Tea appears to be up the top of the table with legends such as Typhoo and Yorkshire Tea. If we look at the facts, this turns out to be Callum's favorite Tea, but tea isn't all about numbers and Callum still goes back to Typhoo with open arms. Roger clearly enjoyed his cup of tea, and his comment says it all, a statement from a real Tea Enthusiast.

If we do the maths, Xtra Tea had a means average score of 40.25. Now if we look back to our first tea test in which Tetley, Typhoo and PG Tips was tested the mean scores were:

Tetley 36.3 | Typhoo 41.3 | Pg Tips 31

Those results put Xtra Tea very close behind our big tea winner, Typhoo. So a bit of a shake up on the Tea Shelf, this great new comer has made its mark. Now, I'm sure your all asking yourselves where does Yorkshire Tea come into all this, and this is a big issue and one we need to tackle soon!

So Xtra Tea got an all round thumbs up, what do you think? Tell us in the forums. Ainsley's Tea lived up to his cooking, maybe now he's on a peak he'll drop Ready Steady Cook and keep his dignity high among the clouds in the wonderful world of Tea.
