The Ultimate Biscuit

Sitting down to a nice cuppa tea is one thing, but sometimes you want that extra treat, a nice biscuit. Often I've sat down and dunked my biscuit in my tea and noticed that I have absorbed very little tea or so much the biscuit has collapsed under its own weight and has to be scraped from the base of the cup after the tea is consumed. This test aims to not only find the best biscuit but the optimum dunk time for each biscuit. Once again the results were interesting...

DunkCAM

For this test Matt Green, Matt Curd and Callum Green were available. After taking a brief survey they narrowed the biscuits to be tested down to four brands. Unfortunately it would appear the Biscuit industry is run by only one company in the UK, McVities. So the contenders were: Plain and Chocolate Digestives, Rich Tea and HobNobs. We put each biscuit to a little test to start with, we put each biscuit to the extreme and found out how much tea it could absorb before collapsing. Every 5 seconds the biscuits were taken out of the tea and gently tapped, if they collapsed that was their maximum optimum dunk time.

Digestive
Chocolate D.
Rich Tea
Hobnobs
20.19s 20.47s 20.10s 10.46s

As you can see the digestives and rich tea lasted for a similar time, they do have a very similar molecular structure so this was expected, the HobNob is a different kettle of fish... It is constructed from many different grains and sweeteners, it isn't bonded so well and collapses quite quickly.

The contenders, looking fit and ready for action

So some rather variable results there. Well if this test hasn't found the ultimate biscuit it has found that a biscuit with tea is a very personal thing.

Rich Tea does still hold its title when we look at the points but this test has not found an overall favourite, It has shown what some might expect but my suggestion goes back to the words of Neil Buchanan "Try it yourself"
